ACC Names Field Hockey Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke junior midfielder Julia Boehringer was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke fifth-year back Philine Klas and Louisville senior goalkeeper Emily Young were named the league’s Co-Defensive Players of the Week, following games played September 14-20
 
ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julia Boehringer, MF, Jr., Duke (Munich, Germany)
  • Tallied the game-winning goal in Duke’s 1-0 victory over No. 9 Virginia.
  • Scored on a penalty corner at the 13:30 mark of the first quarter.
  • Also helped the Blue Devils limit Virginia to just three shots for the game, holding the Cavaliers scoreless for the first time this season.
 
ACC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Philine Klas, B, 5th, Duke (Bonn, Germany)
  • Posted a defensive save in the Blue Devils win over No. 9 Virginia.
  • Her defensive save came on Virginia’s lone penalty corner of the contest.
  • Led the Duke back line which held Virginia to just three shots and became the first team to shut out the Cavaliers this season.
 
ACC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Young, GK, Sr., Louisville (Houston, Texas)
  • Posted a pair of shutouts over the weekend against Boston College and Saint Joseph’s.
  • Totaled seven saves in the pair of clean sheets, including five in ACC play versus Boston College.
  • The pair of shutouts gives her an ACC-leading four on the season.
